Forget the chocolates, go for the Valentine’s Day Cocktail!
If you want someone to feel exceptional make them a Valentine’s Day Cocktail! Just look at the color, doesn’t it say “I love you!” A beautiful Gin and Tonic has always been a “special occasion” drink for me.
Last Christmas I was back in England with three of my girls, we enjoyed the largest G&T’s I’d ever seen. The glasses were cut glass goblets. It was a special evening in a beautiful ancient hotel by a huge open roaring fire. Here’s my eldest with her lovely British cousin, my gorgeous little niece. (See what I mean about the goblets!) It was Heaven 🙂
Back to Valentine’s Day. Thanks to Fentiman’s Rose Lemonade a “pink gin” is as easy as opening a bottle.
What type of Gin should I use?
In my opinion, and after a fair amount of taste testing I would recommend Tanqueray followed closely by Hendricks. If you’re lucky enough to live in England the sky is the limit. There are so many bespoke gins available, have a lovely time finding your favorite!
Can this be a Mocktail?
Of course!! Mocktails, for many good reasons are becoming very popular. To make this a mocktail simply leave out the Gin! It’s also hugely economically to drink this way.
What should I add?
I do think this is a personal preference. Here are a few ideas:
- Raspberries
- Plenty of lemons and limes
- Fresh mint. Rub the mint leaves between your fingers a little to help release the natural oils and aroma before adding to the drink, it makes all the difference.
- Pink rose petals, please make sure the roses are organic and of edible quality. We don’t want to offer our sweetheart a goblet of pesticides.
- Pomegranate seeds
Owning some beautiful cut glass goblets would be lovely, although for some reason I don’t think they’d last long in my crazy household. Instead I used these stemless goblets which work wonderfully for anything from a glass of water to a Valentine’s Day Cocktail.
