Ohh you need to settle in and get comfy for a couple of glasses of this Holiday Cocktail or Mocktail with Pomegranate and Rosemary. This is the simplest punch to make, no syrups needed, just a few ingredients mixed together and hey presto you have happiness in a punch bowl.
I used Gin and Cointreau as the magic ingredients. After some experimentation I believe Tanqueray Gin is the best, I went easy on the Cointreau as I think a hint is what’s needed, too much is dangerously overwhelming.
What about a Mocktail?
If you’re throwing a party it might be nice to make a double batch, one as a traditional alcoholic cocktail and one as a Mocktail for those abstaining. There are many reasons that we may abstain at certain times (pregnancy, designated driver etc) and often we seem to get rather forgotten at the party, having to make do with the obligatory ginger ale. Why not offer something a little more festive to your abstainers – just mix the ingredients together leaving out the alcohol – easy and welcoming.
Letting the punch chill in the fridge and the flavors meld really takes it to the next level. Fresh rosemary makes all the difference.
I found a lovely Pomegranate Soda which I used as the base of the punch (Whole Foods also sells a fabulous Italian Pomegranate Soda which I love) along with tonic water, freshly squeezed orange juice, Gin and Cointreau if using, fresh cranberries, a couple of cinnamon sticks and fresh rosemary. That’s it!
